SEND Policy
The term ‘Special Educational Needs & Disabilities’ (SEND) is used to describe learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for children to learn than most children of the same age. Children with SEND are likely to need extra or different help from that given to other children their age. This help is known as SEND provision because such children have additional needs.
At Camelsdale Primary School we strive to help children with special educational needs or disabilities feel secure, happy and valued as individuals. We are a fully inclusive school and work alongside the Local Authority, Health Professionals and community organisations to find the most appropriate and effective support for pupils within our care.
Our primary purpose is to include children with additional needs into the academic and social life of the school. We aim to quickly identify children, who are making limited progress and provide targeted interventions and support to meet their needs. We ensure that parents are fully aware of the process and informed of their child’s learning at regular points throughout the year.
It is important to us that we ensure all learners including those with additional needs have access to a wide range of enhanced experiences in our curriculum that are both challenging and inspiring.
All schools are required to publish and review information for parents and carers about the support and provision for children with additional needs or disabilities in accordance with the Children’s and Families Bill (2014). Click to read our Information Report and SEND policy.
Camelsdale Primary School is also part of the Rother Valley Inclusion Hub which enables us to work collaboratively with other local schools in the area. This ensures best practice and a common approach is in place in the locality.
The school SENDCo is Mrs Julie Brownbill (contact details: senco@camelsdale.w-sussex.sch.uk).
The Governor with responsibility for SEND is Mrs Fiona Stott (contact details: office@camelsdale.w-sussex.sch.uk).
