A
report on research carried out at Camelsdale First School, academic
year 2001/2002, into gender and ICT in a YR classroom.
Introduction
The original aims of
my research were as follows:-
To investigate
factors that influence attitude towards and achievement in ICT
in a YR class (e.g. gender, home access to computers etc.).
To investigate
the impact of a range of interventions/approaches in raising the
level of achievement of any low achieving groups that have been
identified.
To investigate if
the further application of such interventions/approaches can act
to decrease the range of attainment in ICT within the class by
raising the standards of low achievers.
I planned to use an
Action Research Cycle for this research and, indeed, a personal aim
was to improve my understanding of how to carry out Action Research.
This research built
on a piece of whole school research carried out the previous year
which found that our KS2 girls self-assessed themselves as poorer at
ICT than the boys did, even though no actual difference in
achievement levels could be found, and that girls expressed less
enthusiasm about using ICT.
