Using
PowerPoint and Oxford Reading Tree clipart I made a simple branching
story in which the children choose who will go to the park with
Floppy the dog and which unlikely character they will meet while
they are there. There are four possible choices each time,
giving a total of 16 different ways the story can work out.
The children have enjoyed creating and reading their stories on the
computer, clicking on Start Again when they get to the end.
Each child has also made a 'hard copy' of their story and this
proved most popular of all!
This young
man has chosen Dad to go to the park with Floppy where they have,
somewhat unusually, met a dinosaur!
By
printing the PowerPoint slides out as 'Handouts' the four page story
fits easily onto one sheet without using up too much of that
expensive printer ink.
It takes
lots of concentration to keep on (near?) that line!
Then
there's the job of getting them in the right order and reading
through your story just to be sure.
More
careful effort is needed to get that glue right out to the corners.
They
taught me at teacher training college how to fold a sheet of A4 to
create a four page booklet. I knew it would come in useful one
day!
Finally
there is the title to be written on the front cover and these
immortal words on the last page and the job is done. They then
get to take their books home and read them again and again!
