20 Nov 1947 One day's holiday in celebration of the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Edinborough (Princess Elizabeth)  
27 Feb 1948 School closed for one day on recommendation of manager and with approval of Education Authority owing to frozen pipes and insanitary conditions. Pipes!
3 May 1948 The building of the Camelsdale School Canteen Kitchen was commenced today.  
12 June 1948 Representatives from this School entered by the Midhurst and District Sports Association for the County Sports at Selsey.  
18 Oct 1948 12 senior boys excluded from nineteen school meetings to assist with potato picking at Linchmere Farm. Potato picking!

Explosion of gas in one oven of gas cooker in school canteen. Mrs Budd, Canteen Cook Supervisor, received superficial burns to face and both arms and suffered from shock. Transferred to Haslemere Hospital by private conveyance and detained...  
29 Mar - 5 Apr 1950 Head Teacher and 14 senior children made an educational visit to industrial Yorkshire for one week.  
7 Feb 1951 Squadron Leader Brooks visited to talk to senior children on R.A.F apprentice scheme. Films were shown.  
11 May 1951 54r children visited the Festival of Britain.  
 14 May 1951 . ... "The food is appetising and well cooked. Certain members of the staff are to be commended for their particular contribution to this social occasion by taking meals with the children"...

19 Dec 1951 A short service attended by the local Vicars, Managers, Parents, Teachers and children was held in the school to commemorate the transfer of senior children to the new Secondary Modern School at Midhurst. Now the River Site of MGS
9 Jan 1952 Reassembly with 145 primary age children on roll.  
15 Feb 1952 A special service was held including a two minute silence in memory of his late Majesty King George VI whose funeral takes place today.  
21 Mar 1952 The four senior classes of the school visited the Rex Cinema for a special children's performance of the film "No Vultures Fly" The Rex Cinema was visited quite frequently.
12 May 1953 Bishop Sanders visited at 1.55 pm. to speak to all children on the significance of Coronation and St Richard's Day  
1 - 3 June 1953 Three days holiday to commemorate the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Tue. 2 June. Coronation of Queen Elizabeth
25 June 1953 Two senior classes visited the Rex Cinema at 10.30 am for the special showing of the Coronation film.  
9 July 1954 The fifty years anniversary of the opening of Camelsdale School was celebrated during the week ending 9 July when the following programme of activities was carried out...
...Thursday 8 July Educational Outing of 91 children and 62 parents to Hampton Court, London Airport and Chessington Zoo.
Friday 9 July 'At home' to parents , past pupils and friends at 2.0 pm followed by a special Jubilee Service at 3.15 pm conducted by the three local Vicars and Ministers
The school reaches its 50th anniversary.
24 June 1955 The senior class under the supervision of the Head Teacher attended the County Agricultural Show at Horsham.  
18 June 1956 20 of the older children accompanied by the Headmaster visited Shulbrede Priory at the kind invitation of Lord Ponsonby.  
28 June 1957 School closed for one day for educational outing of school children and parents to Winchester, Salisbury, Stonehenge and Southampton with cruise round harbour. This trip was a very full day and lots of parents went too.
22 July 1957 The parents were invited to the School this afternoon at 2.00 pm to see a display of Country and Infant Maypole Dances.  
5 July 1961 Annual School Sports Day on the School Sports Ground at Shottermill Ponds.  
9 Jan 1963 School closed today until Wednesday owing to all the toilets of the school being frozen.  
13 Jan 1964 Notified today that the contract has been accepted for the preparation of the new school playing field and garden to the east of the present building. School Playing field
11 June 1964 For approximately four years the remodelling of Camelsdale School has been under consideration but previous decisions to commence building have been postponed. This morning the first consignment of bricks arrived to herald a building programme of approximately nine months duration... The Hall and Reception Classroom are added.
25 June 1965 School closed for the afternoon session in connection with the anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta. Magna Carta
1 July 1968 Educational outing to London to view The Royal Mint, the Zoo and the Tower of London. Three coaches of Teachers, parents and children left School Rd about 9.00 am returning at approximately 6.30 pm.  
8 Sept 1970 Returned to school the ten year age group having been transferred to the new middle school built at Midhurst. 160 children on roll to commence the new educational year... Midhurst Intermediate opens.
30 Aug 1972 After 29 years as Head Teacher of this school I am retiring today on pension. N Fulleylove

Mar 27th 1974 Mrs Fitter (Camelsdale Playgroup) attended the infant assembly with a group of next terms admission children. Mrs Fitter
March 13th 1975 Dr Taha Hassan Al Nur of the Sudan Embassy visited the school today. He toured the school meeting staff and children in each class. Dr Tara showed special interest in art work and models produced in connection with the 1075 Christian Aid Project to help Southern Sudan. A visit from a member of the Sudan Embassy
April 14th 1975 School reopens today with 171 children on roll. Mrs A Parry commenced duties as full time welfare assistant. Mrs Parry
July 17th 1975 A final presentation was made to Miss V Lewis in the school hall today. The pupils of the school presented a variety of gifts at a final assembly. Miss Lewis retires.
Friday March 5th 1976 A visit was made to the school today by Mr John Noakes, presenter of the BBC1 Television Programme 'Blue Peter'. Mr Noakes received the collection, made by the children, for the Blue peter Appeal 1975/6. 22 sacks of old wool and cotton were collected, the money raised being to provide a pony and equipment for the Riding for the Disabled' Association. Wendy Halls and Laura Rapson presented Mr Noakes with a special card and pottery, made by the children in the school. He visited all classes after the presentation to speak with the children. John Noakes from Blue Peter visited the school.
7/9/76 First day of term. My first day as headmaster... Mr G Simpson is the new Headmaster
1.10.81 The school visited Hollycombe Steam fair to take part in a film being made for Pebble Mill at One. The children had the run of the roundabouts while film was taken. Wildly excited at 'free goes' a number were sick! William Rushton was the most famous person in attendance. A very interesting experience!
'South Today' also put in an appearance.`
On Television!
24.9.82 The count took place for the election of Parent Governors. Mrs A Thornhill and Mr C Derby were elected. Mrs Ann Thornhill elected as a parent Governor
May 6th 1987 Val Biro, author, brought his car 'Gumdrop' to school. He talked to all the children in the hall. showed slides and autographed books. He was very good. Gumdrop
