The menu has downgraded. It is at the bottom of this page.

It is now expected that homework will take about 20 minutes each time. Use is made of the Reading Record and Homework Book.

In Year 3, reading, X tables and spellings continue to be sent as homework. The completion of unfinished work is expected. Children are encouraged to research their topics at home and to practice their recorders. They might 'discover extra information' or 'obtain information from sources not available at school'. They might have tasks which prepare them for the next session , e.g. data handling, learning parts for a play, preparing for a debate, preparing oral presentation, or planning a design; as well as summative work, e.g. book reviews, literature log.

In Year 4, homework is introduced in a more formal routine - compulsory on three weekday evenings. Children are encouraged to meet the homework deadlines as appropriate. The Homework Book indicates what has to be done and by when. Please check this book and help your child into a good routine for getting work finished. We would ask you to support us by making sure you sign your child's Homework Book each week.

In Year 5, homework is set on five specific days and includes deadlines and may take up to 30 minutes a day. Children again maintain a Homework Book. Please initial work completed. Year 5 children may also work on their homework tasks in school from 8.30am each day in their classroom under the supervision of their class teacher.

At Midhurst Intermediate School, the homework policy states the Year 6 children are expected to complete 2 1/2 hours homework a week. We feel our policy prepares the children well for this next stage.
