Homework and Our
Home School Agreement Policy
Introduction
At Camelsdale we appreciate how important the
partnership between home and school is, and the need for us to work together to ensure a
'memorable, quality education for children'. It is for this reason that we believe that it
is important that children begin to bring 'work' home from a fairly young age. This
enables you to help your child to learn and for them to see parents and teachers working
together.
We recognize the important part homework
plays in our continuing aim to raise standards of achievements and in improving the
quality of our childrens work. We believe homework helps promote the partnership in
learning between home and school and enables children to see that learning can take place
outside the school and can make use of the local community. It helps children develop the
practice of independent study and promotes self discipline and perseverance.
We want it to enhance children's attitudes
to learning, enabling them to research projects outside school and thus extend coverage of
the curriculum and reinforce and consolidate their skills. We believe homework can help
develop better organizational and study skills, and thus prepare the children for future
and long life learning.
We hope you as parents will praise and
encourage your child and provide a suitable bag/folder in which work can be taken to and
from school. We hope you will provide an environment at home conducive to completing
homework and remember to complete the Reading Record and Homework book.
Activities are carefully planned and
structured to support progression in learning as part of the school's medium term plans.
Each term you receive a Class Newsletter detailing some of the key activities you could
help with at home. We aim for consistent practice across the school in setting, managing
and marking homework (as appropriate). Homework is a regular programme so everyone knows
what is expected and is clear about what they need to do. We value the partnership in the
children's learning. There are high expectations for pupils to complete work and they
receive clear feedback on their progress.
Our Home School Agreement contributes to an
effective partnership between home and school. Parents are consulted annually as to the
content of the agreement. Parents are 'invited' to sign, but are not legally obliged
to do so. Pupils views are sought through the School Council. Our Governing Body, which is
responsible for adopting the agreement, also regularly reviews its effectiveness. The Home
School Agreement is re-visited at each Parent Consultation Evening.
